O Alexandr Vinokourov από το Καζακστάν έκανε την έκπληξη και κέρδισε τον αγώνα αντοχής στην ποδηλασία δρόμου στην πρώτη μέρα των Ολυμπιακών Αγώνων του Λονδίνου.
Στην δεύτερη θέση τερμάτισε ο Κολομβιανός Uran Uran και στην τρίτη ο Νορβηγός Kristoff.
Τα μεγάλα φαβορί δεν μπόρεσαν να διεκδικήσουν την νίκη.

Οσοι παρακολουθήσαμε τον αγώνα από την συχνότητα της κρατικής τηλεόρασης θα λυπηθήκαμε τόσο από τον σχολιασμό του δημοσιογράφου, που προφανώς δεν γνώριζε τίποτα από ποδηλασία δρόμου.
Το μόνο που μπορούσε να πει ήταν αυτό που βλέπαμε και αυτό με πολλά λάθη και νομίζοντας ότι μεταδίδει αγώνες τρεξίματος, μη γνωρίζοντας ακόμα και τα πιο βασικά της τακτικής της ποδηλασίας δρόμου. Ολοι οι δημοσιογράφοι που τους χρυσοπληρώνουμε δεν μπορούσαν να μελετήσουν πριν τους στείλουμε στο Λονδίνο. Δεν είπαμε να γίνουν οι ειδικοί σε ένα άθλημα, αλλά και να είναι τόσο άσχετοι….
Θεωρούμε απαράδεκτη την τακτική της ΕΡΤ να διακόψει την μετάδοση την στιγμή που μπήκαμε στα τελευταία 40 λεπτά του αγώνα. Είναι ασέβεια προς όλους τους θεατές που μέχρι εκείνη την στιγμή έβλεπαν τον αγώνα.
