Το “Δημόσιο Δίκτυο Ασύρματης Πρόσβασης στο Διαδίκτυο στην Πλατεία Συντάγματος” και το “Δημόσιο Δίκτυο Ασύρματης Πρόσβασης στην περιοχή της Αθήνας” όπως είναι τα πλήρη όνοματά τους, ή εν συντομία athenswifi, είναι ασύρματα ευρυζωνικά δίκτυα σύνδεσης με το Internet, βασισμένα στο πρότυπο 802.11b/g (WiFi).
Αναπτύχθηκαν με στόχο την προώθηση της ιδέας της ευρυζωνικότητας και των σχετικών ασύρματων τεχνολογιών.
Το δίκτυο athenswifi προσφέρει πιλοτικά δωρεάν ασύρματη ευρυζωνική πρόσβαση στο διαδίκτυο για όλους, στο πλαίσιο της εξοικείωσης με τις ασύρματες τεχνολογίες και το Internet. Ξεκίνησε επίσημα τη λειτουργία του τον Ιούνιο του 2006, καλύπτοντας την ευρύτερη περιοχή της Πλατείας Συντάγματος, ενώ από τις αρχές Σεπτεμβρίου 2007, καλύπτεται πλέον και η περιοχή του Θησείου (πεζόδρομος Απ. Παύλου, Ασωμάτων, σταθμός ΗΣΑΠ Θησείου) και η πλατεία Κοτζιά. Από την αρχή λειτουργίας του δικτύου έχουν πραγματοποιηθεί πάνω από 320.000 συνδέσεις, ενώ πάνω από 80.000 πολίτες το έχουν χρησιμοποιήσει για να συνδεθούν, μεταφέροντας πάνω από 11 TB δεδομένων.
Η πρόσβαση στο Internet είναι ελεύθερη για όλους, αρκεί να διαθέτουν τα κατάλληλα τερματικά, όπως ένα laptop ή έναν υπολογιστή χειρός (PDA), τα οποία να υποστηρίζουν τεχνολογίες WiFi.
