Giro d’ Italia : Luca Paolini keeps the pink jersey after 6th stage

Today, 9th May, the 6th stage of Giro d’Italia was held. Riders passed 169 km from Mola di Bari to Margherita di Savoia.

The stage finished with the bunch sprint, won by Mark Cavendish from Omega Pharma – Quick Step. Second place took Elia Viviani from Cannondale, while third was Matthew Goss from Orica-GreenEdge.

Pavel Brutt became the best Katusha’s performer with 20th position. Right behind him finished Luca Paolini, who saved his pink jersey without big problems for one more day.

– Today was a stage for sprinters. It was a nervous race and all the GC contenders tried to stay in front in order to avoid crashes. So, supported by the team I stayed in front too. Tomorrow we will have a very difficult stage, but fortunately I am in a good shape and I will ride it as a classics race. It is great to have so many fans screaming your name during the race, in the start or in the finish, so I am very motivated and I want to keep the jersey until the ITT,  – said Luca PAOLINI.
