Ακόμα και ένας κορυφαίος ποδηλάτης όπως ο Eddy Merckx πέφτει έξω και κάνει λάθη. Είναι σαφές ότι η παρατήρηση δεν είναι ένας σοβαρός τρόπος προσέγγισης αυτού του βασικού για την ποδηλασία ζητήματος.
O “μοναδικός” Graig Lemond (3 φορές νικητής του Γύρου Γαλλίας και αθλητής με 90ml/ kg/ min VO2 max) πιστώνεται τον τύπο : Υψος Σέλας = 0,883 Χ Υψος Καβάλου.
Ως ύψος σέλας θεωρούμε την απόσταση της μεσαίας τριβής από το πάνω ύψος της σέλλας (μέσο της σέλας).
(Σημείωση : Αυτός ο τύπος βέβαια είναι προιόν της σκέψης του προπονητή του LeMond του Cyrille Guimard).
Μερικές παρατηρήσεις :
- Ο παραπάνω τύπος μας δίνει ένα καλό σημείο εκκίνησης από τον οποίο μπορούμε να κάνουμε σχετικές αλλαγές. Οι οποιεσδήποτε αλλαγές πρέπει να είναι σταδιακές. Προτείνουμε να γίνονται σταδιακά αλλαγές των 5mm κάθε φορά.
- Οι σωματικές ιδιαιτερότητες, το μυικό σύστημα, ο τρόπος πεταλαρίσματος, το είδος αγώνων που συμετέχει ο αθλητής, το τυχόν ιστορικό τρυματισμού κ.λπ. θα καθορίσει τις αποκλίσεις από αυτό τον τύπο.
- Στο ίδιο σημείο καταλήγουμε εάν εφαρμόσουμε και άλλες θεωρίες όπως αυτή του Andy Pruitt σχετικά με την γωνία στο γόνατο, που μας υποδεικνύει ότι πρέπει να είναι 25 μοίρες. Φυσικά η γωνία στο γόνατο δεν μπορεί να είναι μεγαλύτερη από 35 μοίρες
- Το 0,883 προτείνεται να γίνει 0,90 ακόμα και 0,92 εφόσον ο αθλητής ποδηλατεί όχι με το πέλαμα παράλληλα με το έδαφος αλλά με τα δάχτυλα να δείχνουν προς το έφαφος.
- Σε αθλητές με σοβαρή χονδροπάθια η Αμερικάνικη Ακαδημία Ορθοπαιδικών Χειρουργων προτείνουν να κάθεται ο αθλητής ακόμα πιο ψηλά (15 μοίρες γωνία)
