Το συνολικό πόσο των $200.000 θα διατεθεί σε διάστημα 4 ετών για την υποστήριξη κορυφαίων Ελλήνων και Κύπριων αθλητών στην προετοιμασία τους για τους επόμενους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες

 

Αθήνα,  19 -Δεκεμβρίου, 2016

 

Η Ελληνική Πρωτοβουλία ανακοινώνει την έναρξη της συνεργασίας της με το Ίδρυμα Α.Γ. Λεβέντη για τη δωρεά συνολικού ποσού $200.000 σε διάστημα 4 ετών, για την υποστήριξη Ελλήνων αθλητών κατά την προετοιμασία τους για τους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες του 2020 στο Τόκυο της Ιαπωνίας.

 

Η Ελλάδα, η κοιτίδα των αρχαίων και σύγχρονων Ολυμπιακών Αγώνων, έχει μακρά παράδοση επιτυχιών σε πολλά διαφορετικά αθλήματα. Μόνο κατά τη διάρκεια της προηγούμενης Ολυμπιάδας στο Ρίο, η Ελλάδα κατέκτησε την 39η θέση στη λίστα των μεταλλίων.

 

Αναγνωρίζοντας τις τεράστιες προσπάθειες των Ελλήνων αθλητών και επιθυμώντας να διατηρήσει την Ολυμπιακή κληρονομία της χώρας μας,  το Ίδρυμα Α.Γ. Λεβέντη καθιέρωσε το 1999 το Πρόγραμμα Υποτροφιών Ολυμπιακής Προετοιμασίας. Το πρόγραμμα έχει μέχρι στιγμής υποστηρίξει ταλαντούχους νέους από την Ελλάδα και την Κύπρο στην προσπάθειά τους να κατακτήσουν το Ολυμπιακό όνειρο, χορηγώντας τους πάνω από 400 υποτροφίες στα 17 χρόνια λειτουργίας του. Με τη συνεισφορά της Ελληνικής Πρωτοβουλίας και με χρονικό άξονα ως την Ολυμπιάδα του Τόκυο το 2020, 11 επιπλέον αθλητές θα έχουν τη δυνατότητα να συμμετέχουν στο πρόγραμμα κάθε χρόνο.

 

Ο κ. Χάρης Δαυίδ, Πρόεδρος της Επιτροπής Υποτροφιών Ολυμπιακής Προετοιμασίας του Ιδρύματος Α. Γ. Λεβέντη δήλωσε: «Οι υπότροφοί μας – νέοι άνδρες και γυναίκες όπως η Άννα Κορακάκη, ο Λευτέρης Πετρούνιας, η Κατερίνα Στεφανίδη, ο Παύλος Καγιαλής, ο Παναγιώτης Μάντης – έχουν δουλέψει σκληρά, σε πείσμα των δύσκολων καιρών, για να επιτύχουν τους στόχους τους. Είναι ιδιαίτερη ικανοποίηση για εμάς να στηρίζουμε τέτοιους αθλητές, που ξεχωρίζουν με το ταλέντο και την επιμονή τους, αλλά και να έχουμε σε αυτή μας την προσπάθεια έναν εταίρο όπως η Ελληνική Πρωτοβουλία (THI), με την οποία μοιραζόμαστε τον κοινό στόχο να στηρίξουμε τους Έλληνες Ολυμπιονίκες, και να εμπνεύσουμε την νεολαία αυτού του τόπου να κάνει πραγματικότητα τα όνειρά της, όσο μεγάλα και αν είναι αυτά».

 

Ο Διευθυντής Προγραμμάτων της Ελληνικής Πρωτοβουλίας, κ. Μιχάλης Πρίντζος, δήλωσε: «Είμαστε πολύ χαρούμενοι για τη συνεργασία μας με το Ίδρυμα Α. Γ. Λεβέντη. Μέσα από αυτό το πρόγραμμα υποτροφιών, η Ελληνική Πρωτοβουλία αναγνωρίζει μία ακόμη ομάδα Ελλήνων-ηρώων, εμπλέκοντας την Ελληνική Διασπορά στον αγώνα τους για την διάκριση· στηρίζοντας ενεργά προικισμένους αθλητές, οι οποίοι δυσχεραίνονται, λόγω της οικονομικής κρίσης, να αναπτύξουν πλήρως τις δυνατότητές τους».

 

Φέτος, η Ελληνική Πρωτοβουλία θα ενώσει της δυνάμεις της με το Ίδρυμα Α.Γ. Λεβέντη για τη δωρεά 36 Υποτροφιών Ολυμπιακής Προετοιμασίας, βοηθώντας τους πρωταθλητές μας να προπονηθούν με τον πιο αποτελεσματικό τρόπο για τους επόμενους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες – και να εμπνεύσουν με το παράδειγμά τους ενεργά την αγάπη για τον αθλητισμό στην Ελληνική νεολαία.
