Russian World Tour Katusha Team announces about signing of a contract with the famous Spanish rider, three times World champion on the road Oscar Freire.
– In the world of sports, Oscar is one of the most impressive riders of the last decades. What why, I think he will provide a huge influence to the development of young riders of Katusha Team as well as to the development of the Russian Global Cycling Project. After all, Oscar Freire is three times world champion on the road, the winner of Milan – San Remo, stages at Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana, – noticed Igor MAKAROV – President of Russian Cycling Federation, member of the UCI Management Committee, chief of the Russian Global Cycling Project, head of MGK “ITERA”.
– I know many riders from Katusha and I am fully motivated and in condition for the upcoming season and will try my best to give Katusha as much success as possible. On the other hand, it will be a pleasure for me to teach young riders and share my experience with them, – said Oscar FREIRE.
Oscar Freire is three times World road race champion (1999, 2001 and 2004), winner of 4 stages at Tour de France, winner of Green Jersey of Tour de France-2008, winner of 7 stages of Vuelta a Espana, three times winner of the “Classicissima” Milan – San Remo (2004, 2007 and 2010).
In the season of 2011 Oscar Freire won 2 stages of Vuelta a Andalucia, taking 6 more podium places (at stages of World Tour races Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco, Tour de Romandie, Tour de Suisse and Vuelta a Espana).
Russian World Tour Katusha Team was created Autumn 2008 as a main part of the Russian Global Cycling Project. As ideological inspirers, creators of the Russian Global Cycling Project as well as members of Board of Guardians of Russian Cycling Federation Open Society “Gazprom”, State Corporation “Russian technologies” and MGK “ITERA” are acting.
