Εισαγωγή
Στο εξωτερικό ο διάλογος για πολλά θέματα που αφορούν την προπονητική διαρκεί πολλά χρόνια ενώ εδώ στην Ελλάδα δυστυχώς δεν πορβληματιζόμαστε αρκετά και ίσως αγνοούμε τελείως την ανάγκη αυτού του διαλόγου.
Ενας από τους βασικούς προβληματισμούς είναι για τον ρόλο του προπονητή (Για την ανάγκη του άρθρου θα ταυτίσουμε την λέξη προπονητής με αυτό που ονομάζουν οι αγγλοι/ αμερικάνοι coach).
Το άρθρο εντάσσεται και συμπληρώνει το αφιερώμα μας “Best coaches” και ως αφορμή ήταν σχετικό άρθρο του Peter Coe, πατέρα και προπονητή του Sebastian Coe. O Peter Coe ήταν ένας αυτοδίδακτος και εξαιρετικά επιτυχημένος προπονητής, που αναγκάστηκε μέσα από συνεχή μελέτη και προσωπικό ψάξιμο να πάρει τις απαντήσεις τις οποίες δεν μπορούσαν να του δώσουν οι προπονητές και sport scientists. Θα κάνουμε διαφορετικό αφιέρωμα στον Peter Coe, καθώς ήταν από τις μορφές σε παγκόσμιο επίπεδο της προπονητής καθώς και εξαιρετικά επιτυχημένος συγγραφέας προπονητικής.
Ορισμός
Οι Coe & Martin αναφέρουν στο πολύ δημοφιλές βιβλίο τους «Καλύτερη προπονητική για δρομείς αντοχής» ότι με μία λέξη θα μπορούσαμε να πούμε ότι ο προπονητής είναι manager.
O Kevin Predergast – προπονητής στίβου- αναφέρει σε άρθρο του με τίτλο «Η προπονητική ως μία άσκηση διοίκησης» (coaching as a management exercise) : «Ο ρόλος ενός προπονητή είναι παρόμοιως με αυτόν ενός στελέχους επιχειρήσεων & οργανισμών καθώς και οι δύο είναι υπεύθυνοι για την επίτευξη αποτελεσμάτων μέσω της εργασίας άλλων ανθρώπων» και συνεχίζει αναφέροντας με ποιο τρόπο οι managerial θεωρίες και δεξιότητες μπορούν να εφαρμοστούν στην προπονητική ώστε αυτή να γίνει πιο αποτελεσματική και συστηματική.
Μεταξύ προπονητικής και management υπάρχουν πάντοτε αλληλοεπιδράσεις και παραδείγματα από τον ένα τομέα μεταφέρονται στον άλλο. Ετσι πολλοί μελετητές ηγεσίας ή δημιουργίας ομάδων χρησιμοποιούν παραδείγματα μέσα από τον αθλητισμό για να τα μεταφέρουν στον κόσμο της διοίκησης εταιρειών και οργανισμών. Ομως καθώς το management έχει συγκεντρώσει πολλούς περισσότερους μελετητές ο Prendergast αναφέρει ότι είναι δικαιολογημένο οι προπονητές να στρεφόνανται συνεχώς εκεί για να αντλήσουν γνώση.
Θα μπορούσε κάποιος να πει ότι αυτό πλέον είναι η σημαντική αδυναμία των ελλήνων προπονητών σε σχέση των ευρωπαίων και κυρίως των προπονητών από τις ΗΠΑ και Αυστραλία. Ο γνωστός προπονητής ποδοσφαίρου Χοσέ Μουρίνιο θεωρείται εξαιρετικός μανατζερ και αυτό ίσως να είναι αυτό που τον ξεχωρίζει από άλλους προπονητές.Ο ίδιος χρησιμοποιεί την λέξη manager πολύ πιο συχνά από ότι την λέξη coach για να περιγράψει την δουλειά του καθώς και την δουλειά άλλων προπονητών
Όπως εξαιρετικός μάνατζερ είναι και ο Bill Walsh της ομάδας αμερικάνικού ποδοσφαίρου της γνωστή ομάδας των 49ers. O Bill Walsh αναφέρει σχετικά : « Bλέπω σήμερα τους προπονητές και τα στελέχη εταιρειών να έχουν ίδιες δεξιότητες σήμερα παρά ποτέ».
Οι Coe & Martin αναφέρουν επίσης και τον πολύ ενδιαφέρον ορισμό του Frank Dick ότι δηλαδή ότι ο προπονητής «είναι ο διευθυντής των φιλοδοξιών ενός αθλητή/ -ών».
Κατηγορίες προπονητών
Υπάρχουν προπονητές που κάνουν τελείως διαφορετικές δουλειές. Υπάρχουν προπονητές που ασχολούνται αποκλειστικά με ενα- δύο αθλητή/ -ες υψηλού επιπέδου, άλλοι προπονητές που ασχολούνται με την διαχείρηση των αθλητών ενός επαγγελματικού συλλόγου, άλλοι που έχουν την ευθύνη διαχείρησης ενός ερασιτεχνικού συλλόγου κ.λπ.
Υπάρχουν προπονητές που ειδικεύονται στην προπόνηση αθλητικών υποδομών, γυναικείων ομάδων, αθλητών με αναπηρία κ.λπ.
Υπάρχουν προπονητές που εξιδεικεύονται σε κάποιο άθλημα και προπονητές που εποπτεύουν αθλητές από διαφορετικά αθλήματα.
Σίγουρα η κάθε κατηγορία προπονητών απαιτεί ειδικές (και ίσως και τελείως διαφορετικές) δεξιότητες και ειδικές γνώσεις. Ομως όλοι οι προπονητές οφείλουν να έχουν τις σημαντικές δεξιότητες μανατζμεντ.
Οι Coe & Martin αναφέρουν ότι : « ένας ικανός προπονητής είναι ειδικός στο να δημιουργήσει ένα πρόγραμμα ανάπτυξης (για τον/τους αθλητή/τες του) και είναι πρόθυμος να χρησιμοποιήσει την εξιδεικευση ικανών επαγγελματιών που εμπιστεύεται ώστε να υλοποιήσει το πλάνο του….ένας καλός προπονητής είναι ένας καλός μαθητής.»
Knowledge management
«Είμαστε όλοι επιστήμονες του αθλητισμού κατά κάποιο τρόπο. Οφείλουμε να πειραματιζόμαστε, πρέπει να ακούμε και να δοκιμάζουμε νέες ιδέες. Δεν έχει σημασία πόσο καιρό ασχολείσαι με κάποιο άθλημα, πάντοτε υπάρχουν νέα πράγματα τα οποία μπορείς να μάθεις» Linford Cristie (από τους καλύτερους αθλητές των 100μ)
Σε συνέχεια των παραπάνω καθώς και της συνεχούς σημασίας που δίνεται στην διαχείρηση γνώσης ας δούμε μερικούς πυλώνες του knowledge management στην προπονητική.
Α. Η παρακολούθηση της βιβλιογραφίας, τόσο πρωτογενούς όσου και δευτερογενούς, είναι σημαντική. Δυστυχώς γιαεμάς τους Ελληνες η μεγαλύτερη πλειοψηφία της σχετικής βιβλιογραφίας είναι στα αγγλικά. Ετσι η άριστη γνώση της αγγλικής γλώσσας είναι πολύ σημαντική για την εύκολη και γρήγορη ανασκόπηση της βιβλιογραφίας που είναι όλο και μεγαλύτερη.
Β. Η προπονητική απαιτεί την χρήση υπό – ειδικοτήτων όπως χαρακτηριστικά αναφέρουν οι Coe & Martin : Βιοχημεία, Αθλητική ψυχολογία, εργοφυσιολογία, αθλητιατρική, …Ετσι δεν είναι λάθος αυτό που έχει υποθεί από πολλούς ότι οι προπονητές του μέλλοντος θα είναι ιατροί, φυσιολόγοι, χημικοί και σε μερικά αθλήματα ίσως και φυσικοί. Σε κάθε άθλημα υπάρχουν τομείς που είναι εξαιρετικά σημαντικοί. Εάν ασχολείσαι με την κολύμβηση και την ποδηλασία είναι σίγουρο ότι χρειάζεται εξαιρετική γνώση φυσικής και όσο καλύτερη φυσική γνωρίζει τόσο νέα πράγματα μπορείς να ανακαλύψεις. Το ίδιο ισχύει και με την φυσική αλλά και άλλους τομείς όπως η κλινική χημεία, η βιοχημεία, η χημεί τροφίμων, οργανωσιακή συμπεριφορά, η ψυχολογία, η ενδυνάμωηση με βάρη…Είναι μία συνεχή διαδικασία προσωπικού ψαξίματος. Χωρίς τις βασικές γνώσεις σε ορισμένους τομείς είναι δύσκολο κάποιος να μπορεί να παρακολουθήσει τουλάχιστον την πρωτογενή βιβλιογραφία και έτσι θα αναγκαστεί να περιοριστεί στην δευτερογενή.
Γ. Η προπονητική είναι μία αμφίδρομη σχέση ανταλαγής γνώσης και εμπειριών μεταξύ προπονητή και αθλητή/-ων. Καθημερινά ο προπονητής μεταφέρει γνώση στον αθλητή αλλά και ο αθλητής μεταφέρει εμπειρίες και ερεθίσματα για περαιτέρω έρευνα και αναζήτηση. Αυτή η σχέση παράγει γνώση και εξελίσει και τους δύο.
