Το 1990 κάνοντας τα πρώτα βήματα στο τρίαθλο επικοινώνησα με γνωστό μου ποδηλάτη (με τον οποίο έκανα προπόνηση ποδηλασίας) για να αγοράσω ένα καλύτερο αγωνιστικό ποδήλατο από αυτό που είχα. Φυσικά τότε δεν γνώριζα και πολλά ούτε αναφορικά με τον τρόπο επιλογής του σωστού μεγέθους ούτε γνώριζα άτομα και καταστάσεις στην ποδηλατική αγορά. Ετσι το να απευθυνθώ σε ένα γνωστό με περισσότερες γνώσεις στην ποδηλασία ήταν μονόδρομος.
Ο γνωστός μου με πήγε σε ένα ποδηλατάδικο στην Πατησίων όπου ο υπεύθυνος του καταστήματος με ρώτησε πόσα χρήματα θέλω να δαπανήσω και ύστερα μου πρότεινε ένα συγκεκριμένο ποδήλατο. Τον ρώτησα εάν το ποδήλατο σωστό για το ύψος και με διαβεβαίωσε ότι ήταν.
Δυστυχώς τον εμπιστεύτηκα και έτσι αγόρασα ένα ποδήλατο με μέγεθος 58 ενώ το σωστό μέγεθος σε κλασσικό ποδήλατο (όχι slopping) είναι 54. Για να καταλάβετε το πρόβλημα να αναφέρω ότι σε slopping ποδήλατο χρησιμοποιούσα επί χρόνια 50άρι.
Δυστυχώς σε παρόμοια κατάσταση έχουν βρεθεί πάρα πολλοί ποδηλάτες και τριαθλητές οι οποίοι δεν διαθέτουν την κατάλληλη γνώση και έτσι πέφτουν θύματα της απαράδεκτης συμπεριφοράς κάποιων εμπόρων που προσπαθούν να ξεφορτωθούν ένα ποδήλατο.
Είναι απαραίτητο να αναφέρουμε ότι το μέγεθος ως έννοια δημιουργήθηκε το 1972 από την βίβλο της ιταλικής ποδηλασίας με τίτλο «Cycling”, έκδοση της Ιταλικής Ολυμπιακής Επιτροπής (γνωστής ως CONI).
Για να επιλέξουμε το σωστό μέγεθος σκελετού είναι απαραίτητο να μετρήσουμε το καβάλο μας και το ύψος μας. Οι πιο γνωστές εταιρείες έχουν οδηγούς μεγεθών (size charts) όπου βασιζόμενοι σε αυτές τις μετρήσεις μπορούμε να βρούμε το σωστό μέγεθος στον κάθε κατασκευαστή. Επίσης εάν έχουμε κάποια αμφιβολία πρέπει να απευνθηθούμε σε ένα σοβαρό κατάστημα ποδηλασίας στην Ελλάδα ή απ’ευθείας στα κεντρικά της εταιρείας στο εξωτερικό.
Μέγεθος Κάθετου Σωλήνα = 0,65 Χ Υψος Καβάλου
Για να υπολογίσουμε το μέγεθος του σκελετού πολλαπλασιάζουμε το καβάλο μας με 0,65. Αυτό μας δίνει το μέγεθος του κάθετου σωλήνα σε κλασσικό ποδήλατο από κέντρο μεσαίας τριβής μέχρι το σημείο τομής των κέντρων του κάθετου και οριζόντιου σωλήνα. Εάν φυσικά ο κατασκευαστής μετράει τις διαστάσεις από κέντρο μεσαίας τριβής μέχρι το τέλος του κάθετου σωλήνα τότε πρέπει να αφαιρούμε από τα μεγέθη του πίνακα του κατασκευαστή 13-15mm, κάτι το οποία σε ορισμένους κατασκευαστές διαφέρει σημαντικά.
Ορισμένα σημεία σημαντικά
- Θέλει πολύ προσοχή στην μέτρηση του καβάλου καθώς οποιοδήποτε λάθος σε αυτή την μέτρηση μας οδηγεί σε λάθος μέγεθος. Προτείνουμε η μέτρηση να γίνεται 3 φορές και να λαμβάνουμε τον μέσο όρο, εκτός και εάν κάποια μας μέτρηση έχει πολύ μεγάλη απόκλιση και συνεπώς χρειάζεται να επαναλάβουμε εκ νέου την συγκεκριμένη μέτρηση.
- Eίναι σαφές ότι ο τύπος που παραθέτουμε καθώς και οποιαδήποτε προσέγγιση μέσω τύπου στην ποδηλασία βασίζεται σε μέσους όρους και στατιστικά μοντέλα, τα οποία όπως είναι φυσικά αποτυγχάνουν σε αρκετές περιπτώσεις, είτε ανατομικών ιδιαιτεροτήτων είτε λόγω ιδιαιτεροτήτων των αθλητών
- Στην βιβλιογραφία υπάρχουν αναφορές και στο 0,64 αντί του 0,65.
- Σε περιπτώσεις ποδηλάτων slopping ο κατασκευαστής συνήθως τα μεγέθη ορίζονται ως small, medium, large κ.λπ. Σε αυτές τις περιπτώσεις το μήκος του οριζόντιου σωλήνα είναι πιο σημαντικό ως μέγεθος
- Πολλοί προπονητές δίνουν έμφαση ακόμα και στην κλασσική γεωμετρία στο μέγεθος του οριζόντιου σωλήνα.
- Οτι και να λένε οι μαθηματικοί τύποι και τα διάφορα μοντέλα στησίματος πάνω στο ποδήλατο τον τελικό λόγο έχει ο αθλητής και ο προπονητής.
Κλείνοντας να πούμε ότι η τάση είναι να πηγαίνουμε σε μικρότερο μέγεθος καθώς το μικρότερο μπορούμε να το προσαρμόσουμε πιο εύκολο.
Τέλος ας επαναλάβουμε τα λόγια του Dr. Andy Pruitt ότι η ποδηλασία είναι ένα άθλημα όπου έχουμε το ανθρώπινο σώμα που μπορεί και προσαρμόζεται και το ποδήλατο που είναι προσαρμόσιμο. Δηλαδή έχουμε το ποδήλατο που μπορεί να το προσαρμόσουμε στα δικά μας σωματικά και αθλητικά χαρακτηριστικά και ιδιαιτερότητες και έχουμε συνάμα και το ανθρώπινο σώμα που μπορεί να προσαρμοστεί σταδιακά σε όλες τις συνθήκες… ακόμα και νούμερο 58 ενώ χρειάζεται νούμερο 54.
