Δελτίο Τύπου της ΕΟΕ. Με αφορμή φράσεις από την ομιλία του Προέδρου της Διεθνούς Ολυμπιακής Επιτροπής Δρ. Ζακ Ρογκ στη διάρκεια της Τελετής Έναρξης των Ολυμπιακών Αγώνων του Λονδίνου, οι οποίες και προκάλεσαν αντιδράσεις στην Ελλάδα, σχετικά με τη γέννηση του αθλητισμού, ο Πρόεδρος της Ελληνικής Ολυμπιακής Επιτροπής κ. Σπύρος Καπράλος συνομίλησε με τον Δρ. Ρογκ και από την πλευρά της ΔΟΕ δόθηκαν οι παρακάτω διευκρινίσεις.
«O Πρόεδρος κατέστησε σαφές ότι, όπως γνωρίζουν όλοι οι μαθητές, οι Έλληνες γέννησαν τους Ολυμπιακούς αγώνες και η Ελλάδα είναι η γενέτειρα (το σπίτι) των Ολυμπιακών.
Αλλά χτες στο λόγο του είπε ότι η Βρετανία είναι «το σπίτι του σύγχρονου αθλητισμού» όπου οι κανόνες και οι κώδικες πολλών πολλών σύγχρονων αγωνισμάτων εφευρέθηκαν και κωδικοποιήθηκαν το 19ο αιώνα. Υπ’ αυτή την έννοια, το Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο είναι το σπίτι του σύγχρονου αθλητισμού αλλά η Αθήνα είναι το σπίτι των Ολυμπιακών».
